HIGH FUEL PRICES MOWING DOWN TRACTOR DRIVERS

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Wireless Flash) – Car drivers aren’t the only ones griping about rising gas prices – tractor drivers are too. According to Purdue University agricultural economist Chris Hurt, farmers will pay hundreds of millions of dollars more this year just to fuel up their tractors and combines. He says the average soybean farmer is paying $3 more per acre for fuel than they were last year, while corn farmers are shucking out about a buck more per acre. Farm machinery expert Sam Parsons says farmers could save gallons of fuel just by keeping their equipment clean, sharpening mower blades and inflating the tractor tires properly.
