SMOKERS MAY SOON BE ABLE TO KICK THE HABIT WITH BEER

DURHAM, N.C. (Wireless Flash) – Here’s a treatment that’s a treat: In the near future, smokers may be able to kick their habits with beer. Researchers at Duke University have developed a sort-of liquid version of the nicotine patch which is designed to be added to a smoker’s favorite beverage – alcoholic drinks included. A few drops of the liquid gives the smoker about the same amount of nicotine as one cigarette, and researchers say it is safe to consume with alcohol. Dr. Eric C. Westman says smokers who’ve used the liquid in preliminary trials quit smoking at similar rates to patch users. The scientists are now looking for a pharmaceutical firm to sponsor further trials of the nicotine liquid.
