WORKPLACE HARASSMENT HEATS UP IN HOT WEATHER

LONG ISLAND, NY (Wireless Flash) – As summer temperatures heat up, so could workplace sexual harassment cases. That’s according to New York-based sexual harassment lawyer Lois Schlissel, who says companies that relax dress codes during heat waves are more likely to get burned by sexual harassment suits. Schlissel says loosening dress codes can also loosen employees tongues, causing them to be less professional. “Casual Friday” policies and company parties can also be a hotbed for harassment cases. Women aren’t the only ones at risk. Schlissel claims men who show up to work in shorts trying to beat the heat can be harassed by female coworkers. In order to prevent lawsuits, Schlissel recommends employers create a dress code and enforce it, and always respond to a complaint immediately.
