SPEED RACER REVEALS SECRET OF DUBBING

POMONA, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) – Does watching badly-dubbed foreign films drive you crazy? Well, it also bugs the guy who did the voice of Speed Racer in cartoons. Peter Fernandez says the secret to decent dubbing is in the letters “M,” “B,” and “P” – the only ones where the mouth is closed. He says if you say a word with one of those letters every time the on- screen actor closes his mouth, the dubbing will look flawless. It isn’t as easy as it sounds. Fernandez says the characters on the Japanese version of Speed Racer spoke such long sentences that he was forced to breathlessly read his lines at lightning speed. These days, Fernandez is a spokesman for the Child Safety Network charity, which is currently auctioning off a real version of Speed Racer’s Mach 5 car online.
