ENDANGERED SPECIES MAKE DARN GOOD EATING

BERKELEY, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – There may be a good reason why so many animal species are endangered – they’re delicious to eat. That’s the word from The Curiosities Of Food (Ten Speed Press), a food manual from 1859 that will be reissued later this month. Some of the “exotic” items include whale gums – which reportedly taste like cream cheese – and pickled elephants’ toes. Other disgusting delicacies include.... Spicy young monkeys, which are stuck in jars and buried in the ground. One problem: They bear a “hideous resemblance to a child.” Manatee meat tastes like pork and veal but the tail is the juiciest part. And porcupine meat not only tastes great but the Italians believe it’s an aphrodisiac.
