THONG UNDERWEAR CELEBRATES 20 YEARS IN AMERICA

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Bottoms up: The famous Frederick’s of Hollywood lingerie shop is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the day thong underwear first arrived in America. Mr. Frederick first introduced the scanty panties to Americans in August of 1981 after he discovered them on a trip to South America. The thongs were considered so shocking that they only accounted for 5 percent of all panties sold in 1981 – now they make up 90 percent of panty sales for Frederick’s of Hollywood, or about 75,000 thongs a week. To celebrate the undie anniversary, the chain will be giving away 100,000 “commemorative thongs” to customers throughout August. A spokesman says he expects some fans will save the limited edition thongs for posterity.
