NEW DOLL CONTAINS REAL DNA

COSTA MESA, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – Genetic engineering is moving out of the laboratory and into kiddies’ toys. A California-based toy manufacturer has made a doll that contains replicated human DNA. The DNA dolly – called A.R.L.O., – is a remote-controlled robot that has a sample of inert human DNA from an anonymous donor sealed in an acrylic casing on its back. Although the DNA doesn’t do anything to enhance A.R.L.O.’s performance, maker Playmate Toys hopes the gimmick will lead to development of robotic dolls that have DNA patterns integrated in their microchips. The $120 doll should be in stores by the end of fall.
