‘BECAUSE I GOT HIGH’ UP FOR A ‘DOOBIE AWARD’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – Afroman’s hit anthem, “Because I Got High,” is getting raves from folks who smoke the wacky weed. High Times magazine has nominated the tune as “Pot Song of the Year” for its annual “Doobie Awards,” which honor the year’s best marijuana-oriented music. Other dope-oriented ditties receiving nominations include “Hash Pipe” by Weezer; “Inhale” by Big Wreck and “Glad Girls” by Guided By Voices. Although many of the musicians nominated for Doobies have either sung about or admitted to smoking pot, it’s not necessary for award consideration. Doobie Awards organizer Steve Bloom says the Dave Matthews Band is nominated for Band Of The Year, even though their hit, “I Did It,” mentions mushrooms, not marijuana. The Doobie Awards will take place next Wednesday (Sept. 12) in New York City.
