‘CHARLIE’S ANGELS’ TURNS 25 YEARS OLD (SEP. 22)

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – This Saturday (Sept. 22) marks a titillating date in television history: The 25th anniversary of the day Charlie’s Angels made its TV debut. Although Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith were the original angels, ABC thought Smith’s acting was so bad, they wanted her axed, according to Charlie’s Angels historian Mike Pingel. However, he says Aaron Spelling insisted Smith stay and she wound up being the only Angel who was in every episode. Other angelic trivia.... Michelle Pfeiffer almost replaced Jackson but ABC execs chose Shelley Hack instead. During the show’s first season, the Angels were so swamped by fans and paparazzi that they once locked themselves in a trailer for three hours just for privacy. Finally, Cheryl Ladd became a household name on the show but says the price for fame was “...a case of bikini rash like you wouldn’t believe.”
