RESEDA, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – A dental group is chomping at the bit over “unsupervised tooth whitening” among teens. It seems teens are going nuts for those over-the-counter tooth-bleaching kits, which they see as a cheap way to get choppers as bright as Britney Spears’ teeth. The problem is, some kids are going overboard with the bleaching and damaging their gums and teeth, according to The Academy of General Dentistry. Southern California-based dentist Dr. Myron Bromberg says overusing the chemicals in the kits can irritate gums or make the teeth painfully sensitive, while the trays that hold the chemicals can make your teeth crooked if they’re not properly fitted. Bromberg recommends youngsters only bleach their bicuspids under the supervision of a dentist.
