ENGINEERS DEVELOP ANTI-HIJACKING COCKPIT DOORS
LAS VEGAS (Wireless Flash) Forget about building a better mousetrap a firm in Las Vegas has built a better cockpit door for airplanes. Electrical engineers at the Proteus America Company have developed an anti- hijacking cockpit door system that will protect pilots from hijackers who want to re-route the plane. The system uses heavy-duty, bulletproof doors and electronic sensors to keep the pilots locked safely inside the cockpit whenever a potential hijacker is in their midst. When the coast is clear, the automated locking system releases, allowing pilots to use the lavatory or to get a bite to eat. Engineer Todd Davis thinks his system is the best solution to the hijacking threat and has sent a copy of the plan to aircraft manufacturers, airlines and the FAA in hopes theyll adopt it as part of increased security measures now underway.
