TERRORIST ATTACKS INCREASING INTEREST IN MENSA
ARLINGTON, Texas (Wireless Flash) Heres an interesting side- effect triggered by the war on terrorism: more people are becoming interested in the high-IQ society Mensa. The big-brained group will hold its annual testing day on Saturday (Oct. 20), and a spokesman says twice as many people have signed up to be tested this year than last year. Jim Blackmore thinks the increased interest stems from Americans who feel a greater need to be part of a community group ever since the September 11th nightmare. Currently, the smarty-pants society has 47,000 members in America, and Blackmore expects Mensa will gain 1400 new members this weekend excluding New Yorkers. Blackmore says for reasons of safety, the New York Mensa chapter has decided not to participate in the national testing day.
