ELECTRONIC NOSE SNIFFING INTO HOMES

NEWBURY PARK, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – In the not-too-distant future, Americans may sniff out health problems with handheld electronic noses. A southern California company is currently perfecting the “zNose,” a device that supposedly sniffs out dangerous molds and bacteria by detecting hydrocarbons released in the fungi’s waste products. The device can tell if a bottle of wine is bad before it’s opened, if baby needs a diaper changed or even if ragweed is in the air. The handheld phony honkers won’t be available for a few years, but a spokesman for Electronic Sensor Technology, says the military and government may be the first recipients of larger models that can detect lethal nerve gases.
