HOLIDAY FOODS MAY MAKE YOU SICK

DENVER (Wireless Flash) – Thanksgiving dinner may leave you with the turkey trots. That’s because many people suffer from intolerance to wheat – a major ingredient in holiday cooking – but don’t even know it. According to Carol Fenster, a Denver-based home economist, folks unknowingly allergic to wheat-filled foods like stuffing, rolls and pie crusts can develop stomachaches, cramping and diarrhea as well as cold-like symptoms just an hour after eating. Even more severe, says Fenster, is an autoimmune condition called celiac disease which afflicts 1 out of 250 people and can cause anaphylactic shock that leads to death. Hungering for a solution for “dia-wheat-a?” Well, unfortunately, Fenster says the only thing people with wheat intolerance can do is avoid foods made with the stuff.
