AFGHANI SOAP OPERA A CLEAN FAVORITE WITH TALIBAN
NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) The best way to guarantee peace in Afghanistan may be soap operas, not special ops forces. According to Soap Opera Weekly, Taliban officials are big fans of a United Nations-sponsored radio soap opera called New Home, New Life, which is set in a remote village in Afghanistan. The show is chock full of corrupt villains, forced marriages and opium addiction and while many Taliban officials like the show its occasionally critical of the regimes policies. Head writer Shirazuddin Siddiqi says Taliban top dogs always tell him how much they enjoy the show as well as their favorite characters. Although the Afghani soap opera is similar to American soaps, there is no romance allowed. The show tried to do a love story until fans complained the female character was too educated.
