TERRORISM TRIGGERS ‘SECURITY BLANKET SYNDROME’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – The insecurity caused by terrorist threats on America is making some adults buy security blankets – literally. According to the fabric trade group Cotton Incorporated, the fear of terrorists is causing many Americans to buy soft, fluffy blankets and bedding so they can turn their homes into comforting cocoons. A spokesman says the trend had been building up for a few years, but really took off in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Ira Livingston says the terrorism threat has made folks want to wrap themselves in warm and cuddly things like flannel pajamas or blankets and says the cushy home accessories act as a “psychological crutch” to make consumers feel more comforted.
