EAGER EAVESDROPPER MAKES MUSIC FROM FILCHED PHONE CALLS

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) – Illegally recorded phone conversations might become the next pop music craze. It’s the brainstorm of one San Diego musician who is using souped-up police scanners to pilfer conversations from portable phones and then mix them into techno beats. The musician calls himself “The Spacewurm” and says that even though people think wireless phone conversations are private, in reality, “...cordless phones are like radio stations.” Recording the phone calls is illegal, but the Spacewurm claims he’s never had a run-in with the law. Even so, he doesn’t give a hoot because, in his words, “As soon as you get on your cell phone, nothing’s private.” Along with making music, The Spacewurm recently released a book of his transcribed eavesdroppings, I Listen (Incommunicado Press).
