‘DUKE-WOP’: JOHN WAYNE CD HITS STORES

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – John Wayne might be dead but he could soon be No. 1 with a bullet. The Duke’s 1973 spoken word recording, John Wayne: America, Why I Love Her, is now being made available again. Cuts on the CD include “The Pledge of Allegiance,” and a Spanish- language poem, “Mis Raices Estan Aqui (My Roots Are Buried Here).” Wayne’s son, Michael, says the Duke was talked into the patriotic pop album by Robert Mitchum’s brother, John, and F Troop star Forrest Tucker, who convinced him with a few drinks. Although Michael thinks that kids who’ve never heard of John Wayne will relate to his conviction, he’s also willing to consider letting hip- hop musicians record modern backing tracks for the tunes. So far, Dr. Dre hasn’t asked.
