DUKE-WOP: JOHN WAYNE CD HITS STORES
LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) John Wayne might be dead but he could soon be No. 1 with a bullet. The Dukes 1973 spoken word recording, John Wayne: America, Why I Love Her, is now being made available again. Cuts on the CD include The Pledge of Allegiance, and a Spanish- language poem, Mis Raices Estan Aqui (My Roots Are Buried Here). Waynes son, Michael, says the Duke was talked into the patriotic pop album by Robert Mitchums brother, John, and F Troop star Forrest Tucker, who convinced him with a few drinks. Although Michael thinks that kids whove never heard of John Wayne will relate to his conviction, hes also willing to consider letting hip- hop musicians record modern backing tracks for the tunes. So far, Dr. Dre hasnt asked.
