DRUG ENFORCERS TO GET POT BELLY FROM HEMP PRETZELS

ARLINGTON, Va. (Wireless Flash) – The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency isn’t sweet on foods made with hemp, but some gourmets hope to give them a potbelly. Hemp is the non-psychoactive part of the marijuana plant and while it doesn’t get people stoned, the DEA is considering banning foods made with hemp seed or oil. However, manufacturers of hemp foods hope they can change the taste of drug officials with an event next Tuesday (Dec. 4) called “National DEA Taste Test Day.” Hemp foodmakers will visit 70 DEA offices around the country and offer samples of hemp cereal, chips, energy bars and also poppyseed muffins and orange juice, which contain traces of opium and alcohol. Organizer Adam Eidinger predicts 35 percent of DEA officials will happily try the hemp munchies – but admits the problem is with the small percentage of employees “with an irrational fear of pretzels.”
