‘LINCOLN LOGS’ CELEBRATE 85TH ANNIVERSARY

HATFIELD, Pa. (Wireless Flash) – One of America’s favorite building blocks will turn 85 years old this month – Lincoln Logs. The simple brown-stained interlocking logs were created in 1916 by John Lloyd Wright – son of world-renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright. He got the idea from a building technique he and his father used on the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, and after the two had a falling out, John left Japan to toy around with his idea. Lincoln Logs’ manufacturer, K’NEX Industries claims the toy was named after President Abraham Lincoln, who grew up in a log cabin. Today, the company makes 150 million logs each year, and estimates it has sold more than 50 million sets over the past 85 years. In case you’re wondering, like the Lincoln Logs, the Imperial Hotel is still in business.
