ETIQUETTE EXPERT: ‘SEINFELD’ IS THE BEST GUIDE TO RETURNING GIFTS

CHICAGO (Wireless Flash) – The bad behavior of Seinfeld characters can be a good guide to what NOT to do when returning an unwanted Christmas gift. That’s according to Chicago-based etiquette expert Clinton T. Greenleaf III, who says the Seinfeld crew are “re-gifters” – folks who recirculate bad gifts – and that’s horrible etiquette. Another Seinfeld lesson is don’t tell someone you kept their gift after you’ve gotten rid of it. You could get caught, says Greenleaf, like Jerry did when he threw away a wristwatch from his parents, only to have his Uncle Leo find it in the trash. Greenleaf say the best approach to returning gifts is to make sure the giver wouldn’t be hurt. If that’s the case, he says you’re better off just living with the ugly gift.
