Modern-Day Carmen Miranda Shows off Her Hats

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Wireless Flash) – A girl comic in Brooklyn, New York, is reinventing herself as a modern-day Carmen Miranda – and she has the wacky hats to prove it. Every month, Michele Carlo dresses up in a variety of towering knick-knack- covered hats and hosts a variety show in Manhattan using the stage name “Carmen Mofongo.” She owns 20 millinery masterpieces – including a fish bowl “Aquarium Hat,” and a “Puerto Rican Dinner Hat” covered in cans of beans and bags of rice. Although the mile-high headgear looks heavy, “Carmen” says they’re actually quite lightweight and she’s never suffered a neck ache. The new millennium Miranda will be showing off her many hats tonight (Apr. 5) in New York at a new Mexican eatery, Calle Nueve.
