Do-It-Yourself Straw Buildings ‘Splendid’ Band Practice Spaces

SAN ANDREAS, Calif. (Wireless Flash) – Garage bands who want to practice their music without driving the neighbors crazy may want to take a tip from the Three Little Pigs and build a practice space from straw. That’s the suggestion of a San Andreas, California-based company which manufactures kits for do-it-yourself straw buildings. The two-foot-square straw bales made by Baleraisers stack like bricks and, when set up, supposedly block sound much better than a standard building. Spokeswoman Kathy Cochran says the bales are so dense, rockers won’t have to do any further sound proofing if they want to turn that amp up to 11. Still, she recommends building the straw practice space with no windows, since some sound can leak through glass.
