Round-the-World Runner Heads into His Final Stretch

ALMERIA, Spain (Wireless Flash) – A British man who has spent the last seven years on a Forrest Gump-like quest to run around the world will be hanging up his sneakers this August. 35-year-old Robert Garside has covered almost 40,000 miles and 32 countries – running through dozens of sneakers along the way. He’s currently in Spain and expects he’ll complete his global loop in New Delhi, India, about four months from now. Garside explains his epic run by saying, “If I just wanted to run, I’d go around a track...This is a journey of the mind.” Still, he admits it will be “sad and weird” not to spend his days running through foreign locales. Although Garside hasn’t decided where he’ll settle down after completing his run, he’ll be putting his roots down in more ways than one. At a stop in Valencia, Spain, during his final run, he plans to ask his Venezuelan girlfriend to marry him.
