Cuba Gooding’s Dad: ‘Show Me the Comeback’

SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash) – Cuba Gooding, Jr.’s father has a new phrase on his mind: “Show me the comeback.” Tomorrow night (Apr. 27), Cuba Gooding, Sr. – who, as leader of the 1970s soul group, The Main Ingredient, wrote hits like “Everybody Plays The Fool” – starts an official comeback in San Diego. The event is meant to celebrate his 58th birthday and his new single, a gospel remake of “Everybody Plays The Fool” that he says is already getting response from radio. If the song is a hit, Gooding plans to release an entire CD, but don’t expect any songs titled, “Show Me The Money” – even though Gooding Sr. claims he taught the phrase to his son while playing craps. Although Gooding, Jr. made the line famous in Jerry Maguire, Papa Gooding says he can’t write a song with the title because someone else has “patented it.”
