PETA Files Complaint with FTC Over Cheese Commercial

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash) – Say Cheese! People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is asking the Federal Trade Commission to yank a cheese commercial from TV, claiming it’s misleading. The commercial airs in California, Nevada, Arizona and Oregon and features cows singing the Brady Bunch tune “Sunshine Day” in sun- filled pastures with the slogan: “Great Cheese comes from Happy Cows. Happy Cows come from California.” However, PETA claims the commercial is misleading because California dairy cows really live on “muddy, feces and urine-soaked lots devoid of any vegetation.” If the cows could really sing, PETA spokesman Bruce Friedrich says they’d probably sing “Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen” and adds, “And if the dairy industry has it’s way, (nobody ever) will.”
