Spider-Man Sketcher Wants to Set World Record for Drawing

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – Most folks can’t stay awake for two days straight – but the artist behind The Amazing Spider-Man comic books is attempting to set a world record by drawing for that long. John Romita, Jr., will put his pen to page at 7 a.m. May 10 and won’t lay it down for the next 48 hours – barring a few 15-minute bathroom breaks. The Spidey sketcher expects he’ll crank out more than 500 autographed drawings for fans at $25 a pop – and all proceeds will go to treat his two-year-old niece, who has cancer. Romita says he knows he can complete the feat because he often draws for up to 30 hours when he’s working on deadline. He’ll be juicing up on coffee and slugging ginseng and gingko biloba to stay sharp throughout the sketch session, but says, if all else fails, his wife will be there to prod him along.
