Indigo Girls Write Song about Gay-Friendly Guerrillas

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – Would you believe the Indigo Girls got the inspiration for one of their new songs from hanging out with some gay- friendly guerrilla fighters? Amy Ray says she wrote “Nuevas Senoritas” after hanging out in the late 1990s with Zapatista rebels in Chiapas, Mexico. Ray says she and bandmate Emily Saliers hit it off with the rebels and bonded even more after they found out the Zapatistas hold pro-lesbian seminars and allow women to fight in their army. The song includes lyrics like: Nuevos Senoritas, are you gone to brighter days?/ Have you found your greener valleys and the place where your heart stays? The tune appears on the album Become You, which is in stores now.
