‘Star Wars’ Fans Get Their Own Awards Show

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash) – George Lucas isn’t the only guy who makes Star Wars films. In fact, lots of fans take a hands-on approach to the series by making their own films. Nearly 200 budding filmmakers recently submitted Star Wars spoofs to Lucas and Atomfilms.com and now the best ones will be getting a Jedi version of the Oscars. The Official Star Wars Fan Film Awards airs Sunday (May 12) on the Sci Fi Channel to honor Star Wars fan filmmakers in categories like “Best Documentary or Mockumentary.” The most coveted honor – the “George Lucas Selects” award – is chosen by Lucas himself and it won’t be easy. The show’s producer, John Warner, says the Star Wars spoofs are a diverse lot and the only similarity between them is a dislike for Jar Jar Binks.
