Roswell, New Mexico, Vying for ‘All-American City’

ROSWELL, N.M. (Wireless Flash) – The town of Roswell, New Mexico, is one of 30 American cities vying for the title of “All-American City” and town officials are hoping its spacey past can help cinch the title. The town’s history with aliens dates back to the first reported UFO crash in 1947 and now city leaders are trying to use it to their advantage to win the award presented by the National Civic League. Clarissa Gonzalez Vaugh, a spokeswoman for the mayor’s office, says the town will always promote its alien past because it’s responsible for bringing jobs and businesses into the town. Vaugh claims before the aliens, “...the town used to be a pit stop to Carlsbad Caverns.” But besides highlighting aliens, Vaugh says the town is also banking on its mobile dental van and “Dress for Success” program to help win the title. The 10 winning cities will be announced June 15 in Kansas City, Missouri.
