It’ll Be a Working Birthday for George Lucas

LONDON (Wireless Flash) – It’s going to be all work and no play for Star Wars mogul George Lucas on his birthday this year. The sci-fi godfather turns 58 tomorrow (May 14) and will be spending the day at the London premiere of Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, which opens Thursday. This isn’t the first time Lucas’ birthday has coincided with one of his movies hitting theaters – The Phantom Menace was released just five days after Lucas’ 55th birthday in 1999. In fact, all of the Star Wars flicks have opened within weeks of the moviemakers’ birthday: The original Star Wars on May 25, 1977; The Empire Strikes Back on May 21, 1980; and Return of the Jedi on May 25, 1983. Although some have speculated Lucas is releasing his films as belated birthday presents to himself, a spokeswoman for Lucasfilm insists it’s merely coincidence.
