Single Moms Up In Arms Over New Hugh Grant Movie

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash) – When the new Hugh Grant movie About A Boy hits U.S. theaters tomorrow (May 17), many single mothers will gripe at his character’s dating strategy: He targets single moms because he thinks they’re easily won over. But that’s not that far from the truth, according to a single mom in Los Angeles who wrote a book titled Soaring Solo: On the Joys of Being a Single Mother (Wildcat Canyon). Wendy Keller admits single mothers have a “desparate phase” where they’re willing to date not-so-perfect men because it’s so hard for them to find nice guys. However, she says a single mom is also more likely to dump that guy if he doesn’t work out – because she’s been in a bad relationship before and doesn’t want to do it again. Keller doesn’t agree with Grant’s character in About A Boy exploiting the emotions of single moms, but she says he has one thing right: Single moms are less selfish and more nurturing than childless single gals.
