The basement of our old house was steeped in shadows. The stairs creaked with age and everyone had a story about it. Once, when I was eight I came home and saw an old woman sitting on the steps hunched over something, maybe a book. "Nana?" I called out. Very slowly, the old woman turned around... but it wasn't my grandmother. She had no eyes. No eyes, just empty sockets that hinted of wet, unknowable things. "The rabbits can see you." she said in a whisper. "All of them!" I screamed. I spent that summer in an asylum. Okay, that never happened. Today at work I ordered DVDs when I was bored, never mind that I don't have a DVD player. I got the complete Neon Genesis Evangelion set, episodes 1 through 26, because it's the best anime ever, and Legend, because Darkness said some things at the end which were quite true. What this means, I guess, is that my resistance to DVDs is officially ended. - - - I
miss them. So much.
