Paradise
has to be huge, perhaps even boundless. It has to be to contain all the
different versions of Heaven that there are because, at a minimum, there
must at least be as many Heavens as there are souls in Paradise. After
all, we can't all have the same kind of Heaven, right? What is Heaven for
one could easily be Hell for another. Mine, for example, is a perpetually
cloudy world. Think dramatic, ominous, boiling clouds. Think muted colors
and a preponderance of gray and all shades of black. It's exactly the sort
of place that others might imagine Hell to be, or Purgatory at the very
least, but it's my heaven and it's where I want to spend the first
few millennia of my after life. I say to each his own.
I propose that Paradise is bigger than the known universe and all the unknown universes combined. It has to be, to accommodate hard core Star Trek fans whose Heavens are boldly going where no one has gone before, not to mention the B-5ers, the Jedis and countless other geek subgroups with deep space in their geeky hearts. I propose that Paradise is immense, and Hell... Hell is about the size of five football fields and it's really, really crowded. ------ No, my life did not flash before my eyes when I was plowing through the orange End of Construction sign at 60 miles an hour just before the car spun around flying over the v-shaped ditch and landing thirty feet away with a no-fucking-kidding Thud! Not a single scene from the summer we spent chasing mice in the sugarcane fields or the years in the classrooms of a 400-year old university. Nothing. And that was when I realized that it was not yet my time and thusly refrained from screaming... not that, when the time comes mind you, there will be any screaming. I hope not. |
