Background of the Resistance and the Situation at Garfield

Cheryl Chow has recently been appointed our interim principal for the rest of the year. This has happened only after an exhaustive nationwide search for a new principal, and Cheryl Chow was of course happy to fill the position after she was ousted from her job at the City Council. What I am trying to get at is that the only reason that we have to deal with her is that she is the only person who will do the job, which means that we have no alternative. If we were to approach Superintendant Olchefske, and demand that a new principal be appointed, he would tell us, and quite rightly, that he had no other choice but to appoint Chow! And, of course, the District can't reinstate our old principal, Al Jones, because he was fired for professional misconduct. So we have to deal with Cheryl Chow whether we like it or not.

This website exists not to demand that Cheryl Chow be removed (which is impossible), but to express our dissatisfaction with her and the way she runs our school. Once our opinions are voiced, it is up to the rest of Garfield to decide where they stand. The Anti-Chow Resistance grew out of several earlier attempts at unification among Chow opponents. These were the short-lived GSAC (Garfield Student Action Commitee, or Garfield Students Against Chow) and Garfield Liberation Front. We are without leaders and formal structure.
