Taken from: Ottawa Sun Sunday Review (May 31/98): Just before Twain took the stage, her husband/producer and co-songwriter Mutt Lange stood in a walkway, watching the crowd and getting ready for the start. I asked him how he was feeling and he smiled confidently. "We've worked hard putting it together but what I'm really interested in seeing is how the people react, that will be the barometer," he said with his slight South African accent. "I think the biggest concern for us is the sound. In a smaller arena like this, sound is always a bit of a lottery, you just never know." (thanks to Bailey Raines) By Jane Stevenson Toronto Sun (Saturday, May 30, 1998) --- Shania Mania Hits Sudbury: The cynics said it was because Twain, raised in nearby Timmins, couldn't sing or hold her own on a stage, particularly without the help of her husband and collaborator, rock producer Mutt Lange. (Lange, by the way, was actually working the sound board last night. For the record, he's blond, tanned and good looking.) Shania in Edmonton ...GREAT SHOW (From: Newsgroup: rec.music.country.western): Mutt Lange, Shania's publicity shy husband, was at the concert in the sound stage, overseeing everything. He was standing there with his hands in his pockets rocking to the music. He looked like a very proud husband enjoying his wife's show. There was a small candid photo of him in the Calgary and Edmonton Sun newspapers, and it was mentioned that he was with Shania on the tour, but otherwise the newspapers respected his privacy. Probably when he gets back into the States the Tabloids will be all over him. By Jane Stevenson (Toronto Sun May 29,1998) --- Twain shall meet her fans: Someone who will not be as frequent a visitor is the notoriously private, South-African-born Lange, who helped with the sound design for his wife's tour. "He won't be coming with me, no," says Twain. "He'll catch up with me every once in a while." Even Lange's presence tonight for the tour launch is a big question mark. "I don't know if he's going to be in Sudbury," says Twain. "Actually the World Cup is on right now so he's kind of contemplating going off to France, so we'll see. He's a big soccer fan. So he might just set out there. He's seen me do this a million times, so it's nothing new." By Anika Van Wyk (Sun Country Editor May 30,1998) --- Queen of Sudbury: And though he was keeping a low profile, Twain's elusive producer-husband Robert John (Mutt) Lange had been spotted. The couple cherish their privacy so much they are planning to move to Switzerland some time this year. I'm a very quiet, private person and I need to be somewhere quiet," Twain said. "Mutt has lived in Europe, so it will be nothing new to him." By Anika Van Wyk (Calgary Sun Sunday, June 07, 1998) --- 'Dome was rockin': Her band has been hand-picked, and it shows. They are superbly entertaining without ever stealing the spotlight from Twain. Their sound is also one of the best that this reviewer has ever heard. Often a concert has a big group sound, but with the help of Twain's husband/producer, Robert John (Mutt) Lange, every instrument had its own space in the mix. |
