Patterson Cheuvront and Mariamne Brooks were married Feb 24,
1857, at West Milford, West Virginia. Their children were:
1: BOYD
BROOKS Cheuvront, born at West Milford on Feb 24, 1858, and died
at the Cheuvront farm with Dyptheria, Dec. 29, 1871. He was a fiddler
and his violin hung just where he placed it for almost seven years until
the family house burned down Dec. 8, 1878. It had never been touched
after he'd hung it up.
2: CHARLES
ELLSWORTH Cheuvront, born at West Milford, Aug. 17, 1859, died
at the Cheuvront farm with "dropsy" [probably heart
failure] and rheumatism on Nov. 20, 1873. [Dr. Alexander Austin,
the family physician said, "Charley, you are dying now, would you like
me to pray with you?" He agreed, and at the conclusion of the prayer, when
asked if he was suffering much, Charley's last words were "Not yet."]
3: VIRGINIA
ELLEN Cheuvront was born Sep. 30, 1861, and married William Edward
Hacker on Apr. 28, 1888. They had nine children, one of whom, Rebecca
Hacker, was struck by lightning when she was just three years old. Most
noted among their descendants is the family of F. Dorsey and Blanche Hacker
Bartlett, whose son Joe Bartlett was Chief Page at the RNC in Philadelphia
in June, 1948.
4: REBECCA
JUDITH Cheuvront was born Aug. 23, 1863,and married John Adams
VanScoy on Nov. 16, 1884. She died Feb. 2, 1938, and had six sons
and one daughter. Some of their descendants are: Prof. Arlot K. VanScoy
of the Potomac State School, Keyser, WVa, Howard VanScoy, former Superintendant
of Harrison Co. WVa schools, Maude VanScoy, a teacher. All of the
VanScoy children were teachers at one time.
5: MARY SAMANTHA
Cheuvront was born Nov. 9, 1865, and married Charles Dennis Johnston, a
native of Clarksburg, at Brooks Hill in Upshur Co. on Feb. 1, 1896.
Mary Samantha (Mattie) died Dec. 3, 1943. She had eight children.
6: JOSEPH BENSON
Cheuvront was born Jan. 31, 1868, and died suddenly at his home in Owensboro,
KY. on Nov. 16, 1929. He married Oma McGarvey, from NY, at Mannington,
WVa. on Sept. 23, 1896, and they had four children: Uriel Cheuvront,
from Winchester, KY, who married Deane Russell and had twelve children;
Evelyn Cheuvront, who married Fred H. Buchanan of Campbellsville, KY.;
John William Cheuvront, a painter and orchestra leader from Columbus, OH.
7: JULIA ANN
Cheuvront was born Feb. 25, 1870 and died at her home in Morgantown WVa.
on Aug. 24, 1929. She was married to Albert Kennie Miller on Nov.
12, 1896, at Brooks Hill near Alexander, WVa., where A.K. Miller owned
a general store. Dr. Dan Westfall officiated at their wedding.
They had seven children: Dwight, Ruth, John, Hoyt Myron Brooks, Worth,
Lois, and Albert Kenneth Miller. Myron Brooks died in infancy and
Ruth, an unusually brilliant girl, died just at adulthood. Julie
Ann is buried in a Morgantown cemetery.
8: JOHN RICHARD
Cheuvront was born Feb. 24, 1872. He married Dora Ellen Jones of
Logansport, IN, on Jun.3, 1908. They had one son Brooks K. Cheuront,
of Neville's Island, Pittsburg, PA. Brooks had two children, Richard
Cheuvront and Jo Ellen Cheuvront. He was a retired Methodist minister.
9. WILLIAM
HORNER Cheuvront was born Jan 23, 1874, and died in his home on
the corner of S. 5th and Wilson St., Clarksburg, WVa. June 26, 1950.
He married Ellen Medora Parsons, a voice teacher, on Dec. 25, 1900.
He was a carpenter by trade and a very strict tither, faithfully giving
to God one-tenth of his income, meanwhile boasting that he had more calls
for work than he could possibly keep up with. He had an unbroken
Sunday School attendance record up till the last years of his life.
He is buried in the Bridgeport, WVa Cemetery where he had purchased a lot
and gravemarkers for himself and his wife's family well in advance.
They had no children.
10: MAUDE SARAH
Cheuvront was born July 25, 1876 and died with spinal meningitis on Mar.
20, 1893. [W.L. notes that she had been keeping books for William Price,
a lumberman, at the time of her death, and when she was gone an auditor
who went over them was unable to find errors of any kind. Although
she was not quite seventeen, she had seemed much older. The family
remembered her as being an accomplished musician.
11: REV.
WESLEY LAKIN Cheuvront was born May 12, 1879, and died of Multiple
Sclerosis in 1956. He married E. May Kreemer of Buckhannon on June
1, 1910. She was born Mar. 7, 1887, the daughter of Albert Crawford
and Florence May Parsons Kreemer of Romney, WVa. W.L. and his wife
had six children. |
