Tips for dealing with the CSA

Back to home page

1. Get everything in writing.
CSA do lie. They do make mistakes, and they do try to fob off complaints with excuses or hollow promises to fix their mistake. If you have it in writing you can hold them accountable. If the CSA phone you, tell them to put it in writing and hang up.

2. Keep a copy of everything you send the CSA.

3. Keep a file of everything CSA send you.
You never know when it may come in handy.

4. Know your opressor.
Become familiar with the CSA corporate structure, the complaints service (a virtual blackhole for correspondence) and the legislation. NACSA have a CSA survival guide in pdf format. The British system was inspired by the aussie system and much of the info is relevant to Australia.

5. Do not be bluffed or intimidated by the CSA.
You are a customer. You have rights. CSA are there to serve you and to "help" you. Do not be afraid to question everything they say or do.

6. Do let the CSA know that you know your rights.
Do not put up with any nonsense from them. You are the customer. CSA are a service provider. Keep them humble.

7. Do offer your ex private child support.
Every little bit helps to starve the CSA of work.
