Dreams

Homepages and bad poetry seem to go together, so here's mine. Poetry is not my forte. I'm not really sure what is, but I'm sure it's not poetry. So why write it? Well, sometimes that neat economy of expression that a poem gives is simply the only way to go. And sometimes, when a class is quiet and I've nothing to do, I doodle some lines and call it poetry. Oh, and sometimes I write song lyrics to go with the music I've made. (I never sing them though - I can't sing!) I've tried to include here stuff that I'm only half-way embarrassed about. You may beg to differ!

Haiku's

Food of Love

My heart's an apple.

Once it was a marshmellow.

But now it is strong!

-

Apple IIe

Friendly computer:

Green luminescence welcomes

Me with such wise words

Street Poems

The Geek

(slow blues in G)

The Geek listens to Joni Mitchell,

I saw him through the kitchen window.

The Geek listens to Joni Mitchell,

How could someone be so low?

-

My expectations they are dissolving,

Disorientation's about to occur,

Because he listens to Joni Mitchell.

How could a Geek like someone as cool as her?

-

Youth

I'm no longer walking

With that Conan the Barbarian gait,

And I'm no longer interested

In that band with the head-banging trait.

-

Yeah I've turned snooty.

Now I'm a goody-goody.

-

I've stopped acting cool and tough,

I've stopped being funny and rough.

Coz with Youth on no accounts

Must you be serious or yourself.

-

Youth is all lies and deceit.

So I'm gonna disassociate from it.

School Poems

Faces

You students.

You lazy, ignorant, unpredictable students.

You vital students.

-

When I look into your faces I see my past reflected.

And my future...

-

I see sad and sagging faces.

I see faces still unformed.

I see them all to be determined,

By the quality of their lives.

-

BIOLOGY CLASS - 'It's in our jeans (genes)'

(with a thick, schoolgirl accent)

Teacher asked, 'Where did you put your chewing gum?'

We said, 'It's in our jeans.'

-

Teacher yelled, 'Where's your brains?'

We said, 'It's in our jeans.'

-

Teacher screamed, 'Can't you get your minds off sex?'

We said, 'No, it's in our jeans!'

-

Teacher cried, 'Why are you so lazy?'

We yawned, 'It's in our jeans.'

-

etc, until...

-

Teacher sobbed, 'What did you do with my piece of chalk?'

We said, 'It's in our jeans - and you're not getting it!'

-

Hard

It's getting hard

To find a job,

But here I am.

-

Another day,

Another dollar.

Another pair of thighs

In front of me.

Lyrics

No Politics

(verse)

I'd like to fly, fly the deep blue sky,

Like a big black bird, a concorde.

Like Superman.

I wanna go far, I wanna get high.

I'm coming down real fast.

I'm swooping low.

I'll save everyone wherever I go.

-

"Not everyone can carry the weight of the world",

Said Michael Stipe.

...Well, I'd like to try.

I'd give it my best shot.

Let me tell you what I wanna do:

I wanna save the world!

And I wanna be cool.

Don't want to play the fool....

-

(Chorus)

Don't wanna be a politician,

Don't wanna be the man who rips off everyone.

Don't wanna be a politician,

A politician just won't get it done.

-

My honesty, integrity, will surely disappear.

I wanna be the captain of the Enterprise.

I wanna be a super hero!

-

I Believed You

You say that you're going out with the girls

Just to see a guitar playing man.

So I keep a fire burning waiting for you

While you're sleeping with the rest of the band.

-

I believed you.

I believed you.

Don'tcha know?

I believed you.

I bleed for you.

Girl don't go!

-

Sometimes I think that maybe I'm just being used,

Sometimes I'm overwhelmed by the fear.

But I feel so happy just to know that you're near

And you're coming back for me next year.

-

I believe you...

-

(solo)

-

Mr politician with your endless promises

How many more are you gonna pledge?

You've broken every one but you're still around.

Sometimes I think that you got the edge.

-

So break me a promise, make it sincere,

Tell me so I think you're a friend.

Give me that bullshit come next election

I'm gonna vote for you again.

-

I believe you.

-

(at end) I no longer believe you.

-

I'm Cold

(This is just a pickup song, but it's one that went wrong)

I was going out to see the Clouds,

The music wasn't playing too loud,

She was standing next to me in the crowd.

I gave my name and she did the same.

-

It went well.

I drove her back to her friend's home,

And then we got to be alone.

The tv was turned on to a Madonna song.

-

And then she said I'm cold,

Come and keep me warm with your fire,

You know you fill me with desire.

-

Well, that's not exactly what she said,

I wasn't sure about what she meant,

I only wanted the number on her telephone

Would you do the same?

-

So I went out the door.

Was it just her ambiguity?

Or was it only my stupidity?

I'll never know.

-

Maybe she wanted me to stay,

If so, then why in hell didn't she say?

-

(instead she said) I'm cold,

Could you do something to keep me warm?

So I went and turned the heater on,

I didn't think it would be wrong.

-

If she wants a one night stand,

Well I'm just the man.

But I was thinking of her telephone...

-

And now I'm warm,

Warmer than I've been before...

-

Sometimes I wish you girls were less vague,

I'm fed up with your ambiguous ways,

Why don't you be direct.

-

Then she went and gave me a shove.

I guess I've never been that good at love.

-

Alternative Radio

Dewey Philips on the radio,

Keeping it up all day,

Spinning That's Alright Mama.

And rock n'roll is here to stay.

-

Then a man comes on and tells me

About some useless information,

Supposed to fire my imagination.

But I can't get no satisfaction.

No!

-

(solo)

-

Carry me back to that summer

In 1974

When I discovered the radio

Could bring me so much more.

-

Then alternative radio

Broke with a new sound,

Giving hope to the faithful

Who'd gone underground.

-

(chorus)

I want my alternative radio,

The mainstream's not for me.

Don't you want alternative radio?

Something to set you free.

-

Message from the Russian winter,

Broadcast from a tower:

Afghanistan has been invaded.

It's Danchev's finest hour.

-

It's a terrifying situation

When information isn't free.

If the Pentagon invaded a country,

Do you think they'd tell you and me?

No!

-

(solo)

-

(middle eight)

No more bullshit from the status quo,

No more info that we don't wanna know.

Just the truth and to see it on their faces.

But I'll read it in the alternative pages.

-

I want alternative everything,

The mainstream's not for me.

Don't you want alternative everything?

The choice will set you free.

-

I want alternative everything,

The mainstream's not for me.

Don't you want alternative everything?

The choice will set you free.

-

Don't you want alternative everything?

Don't you want alternative radio?

(repeat and fade)

-

Believe

I'm down at the centre, I'm tryin' to find a job,

But people say I'm lazy, they're sayin' I'm a slob.

I'm down at the hotel, I'm drinking lots of beer,

Tryin' to hide my doubt, trying to hide my fear.

-

I steal me a car, I'm getting pretty low,

Crossing double lines not much further I can go.

Next thing you know I've got myself a band.

Suddenly I'm playing rock music across the land.

-

Now that I've got you, I'm talking about you.

Yeah, yeah, you, I've got you.

-

I'm tired of working, I wanna rest my head.

I want to come back home and to join you in the bed.

I don't want no fortune and I don't want no fame,

I'm happy just to be around when you call my name.

-

Long as I got you, I'm glad when I'm with you.

So happy I'm with you, yeah, yeah you.

-

I don't believe in money, I don't believe in power.

Don't believe in controlling the people every hour.

Don't believe in wars and I don't believe in hate.

I don't believe aggression will save the human race.

-

I believe in you. I ripped this off for you.

Not talking about U2, I believe in you.

-

I don't need to spread my seed all around the world.

Don't need to flop it out and show all the little girls.

I don't have to yell and I don't have to brag.

Don't have to lose myself just to prove that I'm a man.

-

I just need you, I'm talking about you.

Yeah, yeah you, I just need you.

I still believe in you.
