"Paladine and Takhisis guide Reorx and make five rulers of the world. Drawn from the elements and encased in frames of metal, these are the dragons. But the Dark Queen corrupts them, tarnishing their metals.
Paladine mourns the loss of his dragon children. He turns for
comfort to Reorx, who forges five monuments to the lost dragons from precious metals.
Paladine, longing for his children, breathes life into the statues" --Leaves from the
Inn of the Last Home
-- The Good Dragons --
Gold Dragons
The gold dragons are the mightiest of the wyrms of
Paladine, and they know it. They are haughty beasts
and, although they can shapechange easily, they find it
degrading to take on the form of a lesser being. They
are largest off all the dragons, often up to 50 feet in
length. They live behind stone, be it cave or castle.
The golds have two breath weapons, a devistating fire
and a poisonous chlorine gas, as well as a natural
ability for magic. The senile wizard Fizban was often
seen with an equally senile gold dragon named Pyrite.
Silver Dragons
The silver dragons are the most loved by mankind...in
more ways than one. Their dragon bodies are almost forty
eight feet in length but they feel just as comfortable in the
guise of a human or an elf. Their breath weapons are a
cone of frost and a paralyzing gas and they are almost as
competent with magic as are the golds. It was a silver
dragon named Heart that fell in love with the legendary
Huma Dragonbane. Heart's sister, Silvara, has recently
disappeared with the Qualinesti lord Gilthanas.
Bronze Dragons
Bronze dragons love the sea. They almost always build their lairs near large bodies
of water and human settlements. They are incredably interested in the affairs of man.
About thirty six feet long, the bronze can attack with either a lightning bold or a
repulsion gas that keeps enemies at a safe distance. One of the most famous bronze
dragons (at least in Kendermore) is Khirsah, who carried the heroes Tasselhoff
Burrfoot and Flint Fireforge during the war.
Brass Dragons
The brass are the smallest of the good dragons at only
thirty feet in length. They originate from arid sandy
regions and more than anything love to hear themselves
talk. They are known to travel long distances just to have
somebody to list to them. Besides tooth and claw, these
beasts can can attack with either a sleep or fear gas.
Both help in avoiding conflict with other, larger dragons.
Copper Dragons
Perhaps the most reclusive and trecherous of the good dragons is the copper. They
build their lairs deep in stone and horde treasures. They are greedy and often
distrustful, thinking that somebody is going to steal their riches. At thirty six feet,
the
copper can attack with either a powerful acid or a gas of slowness.
-- The Evil Dragons --
Red Dragons
The most powerful of the dragons of Takhisis is
the red. At roughly the same size as a gold, the
reds love spreading fear and destruction. The
fire they breath is said to be able to melt stone.
Also, making them twice as dangerous, the red
dragons are highly skilled in magic. Their
loyalties are often misinterpreted, making them
difficult to be used by a dragon highlord - they
serve the Queen first, and their "master" second.
The giant red Ember was the mount of the
highlord Verminaard. Its actual job was not to
serve Verminaard but rather to keep a close eye
on him.
Blue Dragons
The blue is the preferred mount of most of the highlords for
they are truely loyal to their riders, which can make them a
formidable weapon as a cohesive unit. The blues, which
natually hail from desert areas, are about forty two feet long
and breath a powerful bold of electricity. They are, as the reds,
power spell casters. The blue dragon Skie was the mount of the
highlord Kitiara and played a part in the death of Knight of the
Crown, Sturm Brightblade.
Black Dragons
The black, being sensitive to light, is at home in dark
swamps or underground. They are very independant and
do not like to be under the command of dragon highlords.
Because of this, they are usually used as spied and
guards. At about thirty feet in length, the blacks can
attack with tooth and claw or with deadly acid. The
Companions had to face the black dragon Khisanth in the
ruins of Xak Tsaroth and if it wasn't for the healing
powers Goldmoon, the black would have taken the life of
her beloved Riverwind.
Green Dragons
The green is considered cruel and bad tempered
even by the other evil dragons. They are almost
impossible to control as they serve only those who
they believe are worth of being called master. The
green is the most clever and subtle of the evil
dragons making him useful in plots where trickery
and magic play a large role. Greens usually grow to
about thirty six feet in length. Their breath weapon
is a cloud of poisonous chlorine gas. The
monsterous Cyan Bloodbane was able to control
and twist the dreams of the Speaker of the Stars
and destroy Silvanesti.
White Dragons
The white dragons are the smallest, being only twenty
four feet in length, and rarest of the evil dragons. The
are almost never seen outside the icy reagons of
southern Ansalon as they can not live comfortably in
warm climates. Their low intelligence makes them
able to cast only the simplest of magic spells. They
are mostly used in scouting and in the guarding of
Icewall. Their breath weapon is a cone of frost.
