First, stadium seating is a bad idea since the people behind you end up kicking the top half of your chair rather than the lower half so you get the feeling that someone behind you (who you can't see because they are three feet above you) is very upset. Second, curved screens do not make for a) better image resolution (the reel looks grainy) b) all images on screen look twenty feet tall, which works if you are going to see an action movie, but lower-key films look Titanic (not a desirable effect) c) I sat on the far right-hand side of the theater in the first row and I kept getting motion sickness (like when you play Wolfenstein 3D for too long). Third, the operators of the theater presumed that louder is better. When Austin Powers 2 would say "Yeah baby" it sounded like he was screaming it--which hurts the ears so. Fourth, prices have (expectedly) gone up to a point where even I can't afford to go to the cinema anymore. $8.50 for god's sake, and you don't even employ projectionists!
Like an idiot I thought I would buy a coke (since I forgot to sneak one in) and they filled my $5000.00 paper cup half way with ice and then only filled my drink 3/4 full. I nearly lost it and said, "You know, there is about a 500% mark-up on soft drink and popcorn prices in this fucking theater already, the least you could do is give me a full paper cup. Hey here's a tip: wait until I ASK for ice then give it to me, and don't give my that freaking pouty face when I say, 'Hey stupid, I don't want ice!'" But then, you can't blame the employees because if they don't do it the manager will fire them, and if he doesn't tell them to do it, then the district inspector will have him fired, and if you try to talk to the district inspector he will refer you to the complaints department, whose sole purpose is to shut you up by taking your complaint and putting it into a database where no one will look at it, since they already know the shit they are pulling, but they want to make it look like they are in favour of the arts when all they care about is the amount of dollars they can bring in (and then send to the U.S.). Of course, you can't say, "Hey, can we get another theater chain in town that actually appreciates the important role that cinema plays in modern society? I don't go to movies for the chain, I go for the movies, which are more often than not, nothing more than the crap Hollywood churns out on an hourly basis, in favour of reserving one of the eight freaking theaters to show a non-mainstream film, despite the fact that they may find it unprofitable." But you see, theater chains have no respect for the arts, they only look at the bottom line.
Summary: Boycott at all costs.
