-Played by Eamonn Walker
-Convicted June 6, 1997 for arson in the second degree. He blew up a
white owned warehouse.-Sentenced to 18 years, eligible for parole in 5 years.
-Leader of the Muslims.-Published author.
-Suffers from hypertension and had a heart attack during the firstseason.
-Though he didn't start the riot of 97 he quickly takes control of the
situation and organizes the inmates to make their demands.
-Was offered clemency by Gov. Devlin but Said refuses for politicalreasons.
-Organizes a civil suit against Oswald/State in regards to riot and
meets sister of slain inmate. Tricia Ross develops relationship with
Said and the muslims turn over leadership to another inmate. The
relationship never progresses as Tricia moves to another state after the
lawsuit is won. Said returns to leader of Muslims eventually.
-Said works with McManus to remove Querns from Em City Manager position
and bring Em City back to order. He gets a tape made by Adebesi that
proves of the unit corruption and Adebesi finds out. A fight to the
death occurs where Adebesi is fatally stabbed by Said. Said is found
innocent due to self defense.
-The guilt over Adebesi's death plagues Said. He is further
traumatized over the death of another muslim who threw himself in front
of Said, saving his life. He reaches a boiling point and in protecting
Beecher (who has become a friend), Said stabs Shillinger and Robson.
Said pleads guilty to attempted murder.
-He tries to redeem himself by helping fellow inmate Omar White.
This relationship is tumultuous but Said eventually helps Omar stay off
drugs and in turn, Omar protects Said from a plot to kill him.
-Eamonn Walker..British born actor of Trinidad decent. Married and
father of three children. Started career as a dancer but later became an
actor when he suffered a leg injury. He was inspired by actor Sidney
Poitier. Well known in Britain for his work in theatre and British
TV series. Came to the U.S. for the role of Kareem Said in HBO's Oz for
which he received an cable ace award. Maintains residences in both
London and NYC.
Has appeared in "Unbreakable", "Once In The Life", "Homicide: Life
Everlasting", "Othello" and the upcoming Showtime movie, "Whitewash: The
Clarence Brandley Story". He is currently filming "Hostile Act" with
Bruce Willis.
