Alex Whitman
played by Colin Hanks

Alex is a self-proclaimed geek. At first he seems quiet and sensitive, but cross him and he doesn't hesitate to stand up for himself or his friends. He's been close to Liz and Maria since fifth grade. Their friendship became strained in the first season, because they had to lie to him about the aliens until episode #108, "Heat Wave."

Since Alex learned the truth about the aliens, though, he has been supportive through every ordeal. (And unlike Liz and Maria, he has dedicated himself to being helpful even though none of the aliens could really be considered his significant other.) Although Alex pursued a relationship with Isabel for quite some time, she always seemed to take any excuse to be distracted from him (first Tess, then Grant) and now they seem to be just friends.

Alex plays bass guitar in a garage band that he formed, called The Whits. He enjoys computers and dodge ball (not.)

Kyle Valenti
played by Nick Weschler

Kyle is the son of Sheriff Jim Valenti, the aliens' nemesis during most of the first season. His mother abandonded the family when Kyle was six. Kyle is guarded and sarcastic, but incredibly loyal and caring when it comes to those he considers his family.

Kyle resents the aliens because his father's dedication (first to catching them, then to protecting them) often puts him in physical and professional jeopardy. This hasn't stopped Kyle from adopting Tess as a semi-sister figure, though.

Kyle is an athletic all-star: a champion sharpshooter, varsity wrestler and football quarterback who dreams of playing left field for the Houston Astros. In the first season finale, Kyle was shot and Max healed him using his powers, which was when Kyle discovered the truth about the aliens. This revelation sent him seeking answers to life's big questions, which led him to Buddhist philosophy.
