Though not a "Nude" event per se, the idea is to recreate
the original Nemean Games. The comment in 1996 was that people were free
to run naked if they so desire.
Second Nemean Games to take place in 2000
On June1, 1996, history was made when the Nemean Games were reborn. The ancient Greeks celebrated festivals at Nemea, Peloponesse, Greece that were part of the cycle of games at Delphi, Isthmia and Olympia. At one of these four sites in rotation for a brief period of time wars and hostilities were suspended by a sacred truce. The society for the revival of the Nemean Games (which now has more than 150 members from around the world) was founded in the belief that there is today scope and even need for the average person, regardless of ethnicity, language, religion, gender, age or athletic ability to participate in an international athletic festival.
More than 500 people from 29 countries, (among them Payton Jordan, coach of the 1968 U.S Olympic Track Team) added their footprints to those of 2000 years ago, while more than 6000 spectators attended the games in the ancient stadium of Nemea. The second Nemead will take place on June 3-4, 2000 and all who would like to participate either
