Cases for the PCG-C1

The search for the perfect case is on! It seems that many of us got our PCG-C1's without a case. But we've found solutions....

  • Caselogic video camera case

The best fit I have found is a CaseLogic video camera case, approximately 9.5 x 5.5 x 3 inches, interior size, somewhat larger externally because of padding. The PCG-C1 (the Japanese model) is about 9.5 x 5.5 (i.e. a good fit) by 1.5, so it fills half the interior space - you could fit two C1s side by side if you wished - which I fill out with the AC adaptor and a mouse. There is also an outside zippered pocket which will hold relately flat objects such as PCCards and coiled modem/enet cables. The case has a handle on top and a strap. Sorry I don't recall the model number.

  • Caselogic Zip Drive case

This case holds the C1 snugly, tightly at first mind, but it loosens. It also has 2 front pockets which will take the power supply, a floppy drive, and modem cables. A plus for me is that its made of nylon webbing type material, so it doesnt look like it holds a £1000 plus laptop, and it only cost me £15 from PC world.

The C1 fits neatly into the main padded compartment, and there are plenty of other little pockets to hold the a/c adapter, USB ethernet adapter, a book, my psion 3c, etc. Nice extras like pen holders and a detachable key-ring, and the best part - it converts from a shoulder bag to a waist pouch via zip-out waist straps. So when I'm biking to and from work or walking around, the bag sits comfortably in the small of my back, and other times I can sling it over my shoulder. I think it's close to perfect, but of course YMMV. It was $45 from REI, btw..

  • Radio Shack's Portable-Audio Travel Bag (item #42-240)
    Submitted by: David Sorkin
This bag was designed for portable CD or cassette players. The Picturebook fits into the main compartment with an inch or less to spare in each dimension; the floppy drive fits into the smallest compartment, and the VAIO CD-ROM drive would fit into the medium compartment if it didn't have a cord attached to it. (Instead, you can put the AC adaptor and other items in that compartment.) Best of all, it's only about $20.

Not padded, but presents a flat, almost portfolio sized package that I can fit in my larger brief/carryall (which is what I wanted.) At the same time, I can carry it separately with a nice wide strap if I want to. (As someone else mentioned, this too ends up a package that doesn't look like a laptop at all.) It has a flip over front with a plastic buckle, and pockets I could fit all cables, the floppy, the adaptor in. And the large pocket is nearly perfect dimensions for the C1 w/large battery, and room for my extra battery. Cost: 17.99 US $. Original design for the package was apparently a sundries bag for travelling--keep in mind if you don't find it in an office store, may be in many luggage stores.

  • Targus Leather Organizer

This case is designed to accomodate machines up to 9.5x5x1.5. The 5.5 is just enough to make the thing too tight when zipped up, but I found a local cobbler who can stretch the thing the quarter of an inch needed to make it fit perfectly. We'll see. This case has thin firm internal supports and is slightly padded. It is for people like me who want to carry nothing but the C1 to meetings, no adapters, etc. It's still a small enough bundle to carry with a notepad ora book or two which is the main reason I bought the thing. The case is $44.95 from http//www.solutions4sure.com.

  • WWF "Lunchbox Brawl" padded schoolkids lunch box

I, too, have been looking for the perfect $8.99 case for my sub notebook. Works great! Padded very well. Fits the book itself, the AC adaptor, the super slim Vaio cd rom drive with AC adaptor, 8 foot phone cable, and the manual if you like. Good stuff. Literally found at Toys r'us and many other fine establishments that sell wrestling goods.

  • Case 1 CD carrier
    Submitted by: K. Babb
I am currently keeping mine in a "Case1" CD carrier, intended to haul 48 audio CD's without their jewel boxes. It's only about 1/2" too long, about perfect in width, and was a whopping $9.99. I did have to remove its "guts", i.e. the CD sleeves inside. There is also a leather model with a small external pocket which might work well for the C1 plus an extra battery plus perhaps the floppy drive. Best thing about the CD case is that it doesn't look like a computer case, and shouldn't seem as attractive to thieves. Worst thing is no handle or shoulder strap.

This is a PU impregnated nylon case with a stiff PU frame. It comes in black and has two storage compartments, each of which has internal pockets for CDs or larger items. The main compartment is rigid, comes with a removable rigid divider and securing strap and has internal measurements of 180x270x65mm. It easily takes a C1X with single battery and appears perfect to take one with a double or even quad battery. It is deep enough that I have installed a foam insert with a hollows in it for holding cables and other bits in. The pockets easily take a Freecom Traveller CD ROM, floppy drive as well as the power supplies and various discs and PC cards. A handle is fixed to the short side, and an adjustable shoulder strap is included. Although plain black, this case is of real quality, and lacks the tacky labels on the outside that announce that you have a laptop for people to steal. I have looked at lots of cases and none have matched this for suitability or security. It is a bargain at around £30 (pounds sterling).
