"BLACK ATHENA"

"Black Athena" is the title of  a book written by Martin Bernal, the result of  arduous work that lasted more than a decade. In the book, the author refutes the arguments of those who claim that the Western Civilization was born in Greece.

With the aim of rendering the views expressed in "Black Athena" ineffective, the Greek propaganda machinery  has been ensuring the free distribution of a second book entitled, "Black Athena Revisited" to those buying Bernal’s book  through the bookstores in the US and UK. The Greek aim  is to distort the realities contained in the "Black Athena" by introducing classic Greek tales.        ( Greece does take its propaganda seriously, doesn't she? )

"Black Athena" takes as its subject-matter, two models regarding Greek history. One of these models considers the ancient Greeks as essentially European or Aryan, and the other considers them as Levantine-- people on the periphery of the Egyptian and Semitic cultural sphere. The author names the models : the "Aryan model" and the "Ancient Times model". Bernal indicates that the widely accepted view among the Greeks in the classical and Hellenistic period was the "Ancient Times Model". According to this view -- fully shared by the Classical and Hellenistic period Greeks  -- the original Greek culture was born as a result of the the Egyptian and Phoenician movements colonizing and civilizing  the local populations in 1500 B.C. and thus the consequent Greek culture was to a significant extent deriven from the cultures in the Near East.

"Many people are amazed to have learnt that the Aryan model was developed only in the second half of the 19th century", says Martin Bernal, and  writes that the version of the Greek history taught at schools was developed in 1840s and 1850s. Bernal further elaborates that with the outbreak of the north European racism in the 19th century, the bogus myth of "Greece:  The Cradle of the Original European civilization" was introduced in total disregard of the non-European factors that had gone into making up Greece.

The first volume of the "Black Athena" covers the development of the Ancient Times model and the Aryan model. In the first part entitled, "Ancient Times Model in the Antiquities Age", bernal analyses the attitude of the Greeks concerning their distant past in classical and hellenistic periods. Acording to Martin Bernal, though the ancient Greeks knew that they existed within the cultural sphere of the oriental world and were fully aware of the Egyptian and Phoenician origin of their culture, some seemed to have been insulted by this reality. In his research, Bernal reaches the conclusion that like some modern Greeks, the "national" pride of Aiskhilos and Plato was hurt by the myths regarding the colonizations -- myths that placed the Greek culture below the Egyptian and Phoenician cultures. Bernal goes one step further, saying that most of the Greeks that lived during that era experienced a certain sentimental dilemma: while trying to looked down upon the Egyptians and Phoenicians, at the same time, they revered them for having a well-protected, ancient religion and philosophy.

In his book, Martin Bernal explains that, in the ancient Greece, many people shared a sentiment similar to nationalism of the modern times, within the framework of which they looked down upon other peoples.

According to the author, the fact that the obsession with ethnic origin that overwhelmed northern Europe as well as the wave of the racist prejudices was accompanied by the belief that a certain civilization should have origined from a "pure race". Consequently -- with Greese being regarded not only as the symbol of Europe but also as the childhood stage of Europe -- the view that Greek  origins could be a mixture of native Europeans and colonized Africans and Semites presents an intolerable reality to the Greeks.

Bernal states that the West attempted to show the Turkish rule in Greece and the Balkans in the 18th century, as a manifestation of the conquest of a supreme race by an unnatural and degraded race. Indeed, in his book, the author recounts how -- when the Greek War of Independence began -- 300 Germans who constituted a small part of a movement of some thousand people mainly composed of students and academics went to Greece to fight.  He tells that many Frenchmen and Italians also went there, and that this movement was strong even in US -- that though only 16 people managed to arrive in Greece -- the Grecophile sentiments emanating from the war led to the formation of "Hellenic" groups and that the British were grossly involved in the Greek cause as well.

Greeks, spoiled by the interest shown in them -- an interest deriving from racist reasons -- are now seriously concerned about the increasing number of views and researches (since the middle of the 20th century) refuting the "Aryan model".  They fear that their artificial prestige built up to such magnitude will be shattered and the interest of the West in them will wane as the latter begins to regard racism as a type of primitiveness.

In order to keep alive  its view of "the Intellectual Child of Europe", Greece still attacks the Turkish republic and the  Turkish people with her uniquely anachronistic racist rhetoric and attittudes.

ARMENIAN MASSACRE AND

VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

IN HOCALI

Armenians have often taken part in evil alliances formed against peoples of Turkish and Muslim origin. In the course of history, the Armenians have resorted to all sorts of atrocities, tortures, serious violations of the basic human rights against the Turkish people.

The most horrendous examples of chauvinist and racist hostility towards the Turkic nations have been witnessed in the inhuman, Armenian onslaughts against Azerbaijan and especially the Azeris living in Nagorno-Karabagh, which is part of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In February 1992, the Armenian terrorists committed one of the greatest crimes against humanity in Hocalı: they organized a sudden armed offensive against the defenceless and innocent, mass-murdering hundreds of them through a hair-raising and an indescribable barbarism.

On the night of 25-26 February 1992, the Armenian armed forced and mercenaries felt no mercy towards the Muslim, Azeri people who failed to escape from the sudden attack. According to the reporters visiting the scene and the eye-witnesses, the bodies of hundreds of children, women and the elderly were piled up on to each other, who were clearly shot dead from a very close range and with a bullet shot in the head. While some were taken aside and shot singly, many of the people were killed as a whole family. Some bodies had many wounds on them, being a single one shot in the head. This shows the victims were finished off by a single shot.

Some children had their ears cut off; the skin was removed from one side of the face of an elderly woman. It was obvious that certain valuable items were stolen from some of the bodies. Those visiting the scene of fighting on 28 February witnessed that everywhere was covered with bodies.

According to the depositions given by the eye-witnesses, the children were tortured to death before the very eyes of their parents; eyes of the sodiers of the national army of Azerbaijan were scooped out with screwdrivers. Azeris who managed to flee as far as the neighboring village of Nahchevanik came under the intense fire of the Armenian machine-guns and BMPs. As a result of the indiscriminate fire opened on to the civilians, hundreds of innocent people lost their lives. A survivor from Hocalı, filled with hatred, says: "I will never forget the mountain of the bodies of women, children and the elderly nearby Nahchevanik". People who sought shelter in the other nearby villages were again taken hostage by the Armenians who subjected the former to hair-raising tortures before they were massacred. Those did manage to escape to the mountains fell victim to the frostbite.

Jean Yves Junet, a French journalist, who visited the scene of the massacre in Hocalı states the following:

"I listened to many stories of war, heard about the atrocities of fascists but the Armenians who killed 5-6 year-old children and innocent people are far worse.."

Junet’s Russian colleague V. Belykh, who works for Isvestia, made a story on the issue, reporting that he came across with behead bodies with scooped out eyes, cut off ears or scalped.

According to the official figures, more than 300 people were massacred in Hocalı.

Before Hocalı came under the control of the Armenians as a result of a bloody and merciless massacre, they, in their attacks against the Azeris, respected neither the human rights nor war ethics and rules. Keeping the Azeri villages under intense artillery and snipers, the Armenians wholly or partially destroyed the hospitals, houses and other places that are not accepted as military targets according to humanitarian laws. As a result of these attacks, hundreds of civilians were killed or maimed, while the civilian population was always kept in a state of fear.

In brief, about six years ago, the Armenians perpetrated a genocide in Hocalı that overshadowed the atrocities of the Nazis, Fascists, Phalangists. A genocide of this magnitude and scope cannot be covered up, suppressed or forgetten. It is a genocide that will be remembered by the entire humanity throughout history…

"SOUTH ALBANIA" IS A TARGET OF GREEK EXPANSIONISM

Greeks claim that the Orthodox Minority living in south Albania (North Epirus) are Greeks and conduct a propaganda towards this claim at all the international fora. In fact, a great majority of this Orthodox Minority living in south Albania (named as "North Epirus" by the Greeks) that number about 400 thousand are Orthodox Albanians. The number of the Greeks living in Albania, with the most optimistic estimations, do not exceed 60 thousand.

To bring south Albania under her control has been one of the targets of the Greek expansionism ever since Greece rose to the political stage as a state in 1832. At the "Berlin Congress" held in 1878, the Greeks demanded south Albania and was included in the scope of the "Megalo Idea" (Greek utopia for a Greater Greece) in 1910s. In order to see that the Greek expansionism still continues today, it is sufficient to have a look at the policy of Athens being pursued vis-a-vis Albania.

Greeks and the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate have never supported the establishment of an independent Albanian Orthodox Church; on the contrary, they have resorted to all means to prevent this. The Fener Patriarchate has had, for centuries, kept the Orthodox Albanians under pressure. This policy is being continued by the Greek Church. The history of the relations between the Fener Patriarchate and Orthodox Albanians is full of the Albanian priests who were poisoned and tortured just because they taught the Albanian language and preached the people as such.

The present Albanian-Greek border was drawn up under the Florence Protocol dated 17 September 1913, which was reconfirmed anew on 19-23 January 1935 by border commission of the League of Nations. Greece accepted this border on 27 January 1925.

Greece’s policy during the Cold War years has been to hide her expansionist designs against south Albania, under "freedom to Albanians" and anti-communism.

In today’s Greece, hundreds of thousands of Orthodox Albanians are living under pressure. They possess none of the minority rights. Rights of the Orthodox Albanians to establish their own Church, teach the Albanian language and preach have been prohibited by the Greek Government. And this state of affairs is in flagrant violation with the "Greek Savri" that sets out the status of all the minorities in Greece.

Communist regimes in six countries included in the Eastern Bloc collapse one after the other, beginning in 1989. Also in Albania, the policy of opening up to the outside world was introduced as from early months of 1990. As a result, Turkey-Albania relations, that had already been favorable, have further improved, reaching the current, excellent stage.

There exist significant issues of ethnicity in Yugoslavia. In Kosovo, relations between the Albanians, the majority, and the Serbs have always been sour and finally they have reached an explosion point.

By sowing seeds of enmity in the Balkans through ill-intentioned ruses, Greece supplies them with arms so that they kill each other; thus, in this manner, it tries to prepare the ground for extending her borders with Albania and Macedonia.
