A Little About Me

Well, let's see. As I said, my name is Patrick Milam. I'm a junior at the University of South Alabama. It's a pretty nice school, very close to where I live, so I don't have to pay extra for a small dorm with a roommate. I'm shy that way. I have a double major in psychology and in history.

I also work at the University of South Alabama, at the main library. I'm a student assistant in the circulation department. It's a nice job, but it's minimum wage and I only work 15 to 25 hours a week.

If you want to see my resume, you can find it here on this website.

I'm 23 years old, born on September 11, 1976. If you're wondering how I'm only a junior, that's a long story. At least part of the reason is I have severe Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and I wasn't diagnosed until late 1998. It wrecked havoc on my early college career, particularly my GPA. I had to sit 1998 out, and was only a part-time student for the last quarter or two of 1997.

I also deconverted from Christianity in 1998. I am now an atheist. Don't try to "save" me or anything..I've given this a lot of thought and I simply can't believe anymore. My first real rant is about my deconversion. I have a few others now, as well, and more will follow as soon as someone pisses me off enough.

Anyway, I'm also a zoophile and a poly. What that means is I have an emotional attachment to non-human animals that many humans have only for other humans. As a poly, I also believe that it's normal to have a loving relationship with more than one person at a time. That doesn't mean I'm going to go out looking to have more than one relationship at a time, but I won't turn down the opportunity if it presents itself. I have to actually be in love with the people involved, though. That's the key. If you want to know more about either of these lifestyles, I recommend you check out The Zoo Ring and Polyamory.com. As my own website develops, I hope to include some rants about zoophilia and polyamory.

Since it's easy to assume everyone's straight unless they specifically point out otherwise, I'm bi(sexual).

On a lighter note, I'm also a furry, which means I have a fondness for anthromorphic animals (i.e., Garfield, the Rescue Rangers, or animal mascots). I didn't know such a community existed before I found out about it on the Internet, much less that we have a name. There's even an annual FurrCon, a convention for furries. I hope that one day I'll be able to afford the time and money to go to one.

I like to read and watch movies.

Favorite books of mine are:

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, by JRR Tolkien
Watership Down, by Richard Adams.

Favorite movies of mine are:

the Alien movies (Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection)
the Star Wars movies
Blade Runner
Jacob's Ladder
The Hunger
The Lion King
The Secret of NIMH

I like Warriors of Virtue because of the kangaroo costumes. I also like Japanese animation, also known as anime, particularly Vampire Hunter D. The Sci-Fi Channel used to show anime every weekend, but not anymore :(. At least they still show Mystery Science Theater 3000 and FarScape, two of my favorite television shows. MST3K has been cancelled, but reruns can be seen every Saturday morning.

Favorite singers / musicians:
Bauhaus
The Changelings
Seal
Alanis Morissette
They Might Be Giants
