The last selection competition for the european championships was held in Bucharest organized in the competition called Romanian Cup.

The first one was the Golden Spin International Competition, held in Zagreb, CRO, in november 1998. Here Cornel GHEORGHE finished on the 4th place, while Gheorghe CHIPER on the 7th place.
The second one was the 1999 Romanian Figure Skating Chamionships, held in Bucharest, ROM, in december 1998. Gheorghe CHIPER won this competition, and Cornel GHEORGHE came 2nd.

The standing was 1-1, so this competition decided who will go to europeans.

About the performances
My first remark is that Cornel GHEORGHE was seriously injured, he had big problems with his leg.

1. Gheorghe CHIPER
Short - 3Axel steping out, 3Lutz preceding by steps, 3Flip steping out turn 2Toeloop
Free - 3Axel short landing, 3Salchow a few steps and fell on the starting edge of 3Loop, 3Flip, 3Toeloop, 3Lutz, 3Salchow short landing turn 2Toeloop, 3Toeloop short landing turn 2Toeloop. He got quite tired at the end.

2. Cornel GHEORGHE
Short - 2Lutz+2Toeloop, 2Flip preceding by steps, half turn at Axel. The injury really affected his skating, and his spins too. (didn't do flying spin, he did camel spin) He didn't forced at this stage of the competition.
Free - 3Lutz+2Toeloop, 3Flip steping out, 2Loop, 3Toeloop, 2Flip, 3Loop, 3Salchow. He really fighted, but his skating, and his spins were affected by the injury.
