There have been many hair changes for the boys of NSYNC, a fresh-faced quintet from Orlando, who have found themselves on the top of the charts, and at the top of many worst dressed lists lately.
A clean buzz for young Justin Timberlake, even Jamaican-themed locks for funnyman Chris Kirkpatrick. But the hairstyle garnering the most attention is that of JC Chasez, 24. His long, wind-swept look has been garnering both raves and jeers. Even Hollywood has gotten in on the buzz.
While many young fans find themselves asking why, the family of the late actor Bert Lahr, best known for his performance of The Cowardly Lion in the classic film The Wizard of Oz, is outraged. "He um...looks a little like my grandfather did, in the movie," whispered Tena Lahr, speaking on behalf of the Lahr family. "But I...I guess we're kind of upset that he would...borrow the look, even if we don't want any trouble. Oh my! Trouble."
Bandmate Chris Kirkpatrick is worried about his friend. In an interview with Celebrity Hairstyles, Kirkpatrick had this to say. "I really fear for him. The other day, I walked in to find him watching a video of The Wizard of Oz, and he just looked...posessed. I just thought he was into some weird Robert Smith phase or some s*** like that, but wow, this is deeper than I expected. Personally, I just think he looks like Edward Scissorhands, but you don't see Johnny Depp getting all up in arms, you know?"
Others in the entertainment industry have also weighed in.
Famous zookeeper Jack Hanna is skeptical of the accusations. He sat down to talk to the press during feeding time at the San Diego Zoo. "I don't really think the kid looks much like a lion, more like just some weird hippie. What do I know? I'm just a simple zookeeper, struggling myself. He needs to wear more khaki anyway." The interview was cut short when Hanna had to leave to call Jay Leno and then film another tv special.
Calls to Frank Oz went unanswered, although several prank calls were recieved in our offices by someone pretending to be Kermit the Frog, shouting obscenities and telling us he had nothing to do with The Wizard of Oz.
The fan reaction to the new hairstyle has been mixed. One fan, wearing black lace and breathlessly lighting candles outside the Orlando studio where NSYNC has been recording their new album. "I don't get this lion stuff, but I guess it's cool, because lions are dark and really tortured, right? I think it's somehow cosmically linked somehow, to this whole dark vibe that'll be on NSYNC's new album. I mean, Pop Odyssey? I read somewhere on the internet that The Cure almost released an album called Odyssey of Darkness. Or maybe Anne Rice was going to release a book by that title. I'm not sure."
Other fans rallied against the new do, sparking petitions and other campaigns to crop up across the nation. "I'm constructing this picture, of the way JC used to look, and should aways look, completely out of NSYNC lipgloss. I'm going to send it to him when I'm done. I really think that when he sees how much this is hurting the fans, he'll rethink his decision and cut his hair. He doesn't look like a lion, but to me, he's a stranger. A stranger grabbing his crotch and wearing tight leather pants."
But what will fans do until this "stranger" disappears? What will happen if the hair just keeps on growing? One fan tearfully pondered the inevitable. "I've heard what happened after John Lennon grew out his hair. I saw Backbeat just because Stephen Dorff was so hot. He got all political and wiggy and stuff and the Beatles were forced to grow and change. And what if that happens with JC? I don't want NSYNC to sing about Chinese leaders! I want them to sing about fun things, like the end of the world and cybering and stuff!"
