Nothing is really work unless you would rather be doing something else.

So who needs time for homework?

To sum up really quickly:

I still haven't gotten very much sleep. It appears very likely that I'll be turning Philosophy 101 into another section of Independent Studies in Language and Literature. I hate doing that, but it may be the only way I'll be able to keep my sanity. I don't currently expect to get very much out of the course itself; the professor was even tiptoeing around the word "metaphysics," for fear of scaring people off. And I hate having my words misconstrued for the sake of advancing the professor's argument... but I'll get to all of this in a later entry, I'm sure.

Over in British Literature I, it seems that we're going to be covering a lot of works I've wanted to cover for some time, so that much is well with the world. No Beowulf, alas, but bits of Canterbury Tales, and Dr. Faustus, and Paradise Lost, so I have what to look forward to.

I just finished my homework for 2D Design, but have just discovered that I don't have a glue stick, so I'll have to bring it along with me tomorrow, and glue it together during lunch, just before class. I may scan the results, so you can see how I did.

I had a job interview today. I was offered a job, in fact, which would pay enough to cover the rent, plus my food, and phone bill, and Internet access, with a possible raise down the road, even. The work would primarily consist of data entry, which I'm a bit overqualified for, but that would be just dandy, really. There's also growth potential, which I couldn't care much less about; I'm not looking for a career just now; I just want to facilitate my studies. The only catch is that the job would take 30 hours a week, located so as to cover pretty all of my daytime hours not spent in class, and there'd be a 45-60 minute commute each way.

I figure there are two possibilities: Either I'll be able to wake up early enough to get there every day, in which case, of necessity, I'll somehow manage to get to sleep earlier every night, but in which case, I won't actually have a chance to do my homework, except, perhaps, on the train... or I'll still have the usual trouble getting to sleep, in which case, I'll be able to get to my homework, but in which case I won't stand a chance of being there on time every day.

The guy wants an answer tomorrow morning. With some reluctance, and considerable feelings of guilt, I've pretty much decided to turn it down.

*sigh*

My tea dilemma has hit a nerve or two, it seems. Fons Taddic had this to say:
Geeks do not, in fact, drink tea. Geeks drink most caffienated beverages otherwise - including the highly revered JOLT cola, and avoid any drink that may be considered "cultured". This includes Cappucinos for non-Ally Mcbeal fans.... if the geek in question does happen to be an Ally Mcbeal fan, then the Cappucino is the ritual drink for the geek when Ally comes on (Check your local listings.) Any geek which fails to meet this tradition is summarily swallowed by a black hole and forced to get a job in marketing.
All I can think of to add to that is that it occurred to me afterwards that anybody who could dismiss carrying around a two-liter bottle of soda as "unwieldy," but then seriously consider carrying around two Thermos bottles to kludge a decent cup of tea probably doesn't have to worry about his geek status. But maybe I'm just fooling myself.

Another correspondant, whom I haven't gotten permission to mention by name (would that be okay?) suggested that peppermint tea could be an effective pick-me-up, even if it doesn't pack quite as much of a punch as a Coca-Cola. I'll have to give that a try.

Anyway. I have to go to sleep, so I can get up relatively early, type up my critical reading journal entry for class, zoom over to college, and then do all sorts of stuff. Including writing a column on a topic to be determined at the last minute.
